Parque Nacional Nymboi-Binderay

Descripción

Nymboi-Binderay National Park is a protected area located in the northern region of New South Wales, Australia. It covers an area of 48,050 hectares and was established in 1999. The park is located on the eastern escarpment of the Great Dividing Range, and it is an important part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. It is situated about 45 kilometres northwest of Coffs Harbour and 70 kilometres southwest of Grafton.

The park is known for its diverse flora and fauna, including threatened species such as the koala, long-nosed potoroo, and the giant barred frog. The park also protects the headwaters of several rivers, including the Nymboida, Mann and Boyd rivers, which provide important habitat for many aquatic species.

One of the most notable features of the park is the Nymboi-Binderay Wilderness Area, which covers an area of over 20,000 hectares. The wilderness area contains rugged terrain and is characterized by steep gorges and deep valleys. It is home to a variety of plant and animal species, including the endangered spotted-tailed quoll, the glossy black cockatoo, and the eastern bristlebird.

Visitors to the park can enjoy a range of activities, including bushwalking, camping, fishing, and swimming. There are several walking tracks within the park, ranging from short, easy walks to longer, more challenging hikes. The most popular walks include the Nymboida River walk, which follows the Nymboida River through dense rainforest, and the Gibraltar Range walk, which offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.

Camping is permitted within the park at the Mulligans campground and the Dandahra campground. Both campgrounds offer basic facilities, including toilets and picnic tables. Visitors should be aware that there are no shops or petrol stations within the park, so it is important to bring all necessary supplies.

Fishing is a popular activity within the park, with several species of fish found in the rivers and streams. However, visitors should be aware that fishing is strictly regulated, and a valid fishing permit is required. Swimming is also possible in some areas of the park, but visitors should exercise caution as some of the rivers and streams can be quite dangerous, particularly during periods of high rainfall.
