Kalamunda – Zig Zag – Perth Hills

A beautiful drive in Western Australia's Perth Hills is called Kalamunda - Zig Zag. Perth, the state capital, is just 30 minutes away by car, and the trip gives breathtaking views of the surroundings.

The railway line built in the late 1800s to bring lumber from the forests in the Perth Hills to the city has the name Kalamunda - Zig Zag Drive. The trains could ascend and descend the steep slopes because the railway route was designed with a sequence of switchbacks or zigzags.

The Perth Hills region's magnificent splendour may be seen by visitors on the Zig Zag drive, which is still a well-liked tourist attraction even though the railway line is no longer in service.

The journey begins in Kalamunda town before winding up the hill and providing breathtaking views of the surroundings. There are various viewpoint places where travellers can pause and enjoy the expansive views.

Several walking paths can be found along the Zig Zag Drive, allowing tourists to explore the surrounding bushland and enjoy the sights and sounds of the native flora and animals. There are alternatives for all fitness levels on easy-to-moderate paths.

Visitors may tour the Perth Hills Discovery Centre, which details the area's history, flora, and animals, at the top of the Zig Zag road. In addition, visitors to the centre may learn more about the local environment by taking one of the centre's guided tours around the neighbourhood.

Several cafés and restaurants can be found along the Kalamunda-Zig Zag route, giving customers a chance to try the products and cuisine of the area. The trip is exceptionally well-liked in the spring when the wildflowers bloom and cover the hills in a magnificent blanket of colour.

The Perth Hills region offers visitors a variety of additional attractions in addition to the Zig Zag drive, including the Lesmurdie Falls, the Mundaring Weir, and the Bickley Valley Wine Route.
